Today, Tug McGraw, one of the greatest characters in baseball would have celebrated his 77th Birthday. Ya Gotta Believe, #45 the undersized pitcher with an arsenal of pitches, the Peggy Lee, the Cutty Sark, the John Jameson and his infamous Screwball delivered both the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies World Series titles. In 2003, an unexpected opponent challenged Tugger-Glioblastoma. He faced the brain cancer game with courage, tenacity and resilience. For the past 17 years, Tug's legacy continues on through the work of his foundation-improving quality of life for those affected by brain-related trauma and tumors. Fifty years later, we continue to find treasures that Tug left behind. Including a personal note and poem he had written to his mother back in the early 70s while serving as a reservist in the USMC. Tug's letter penned nearly fifty years ago as he said, "is very fitting" during a time our nation continues to face hurricanes, wildfires, a pandemic, and events in Afghanistan.
Happy Heavenly Birthday Tug McGraw: Fifty years later, we continue to find words of wisdom by you!
