Barrels4Vets Teams with TMF to Support Veterans

Most vintners see used barrels as a leftover artifact from a great a vintage, maybe good for another season or two at most. Otherwise, they are a space consuming useless relic, worth only a few dollars to a reseller or amateur home winemaker. Chuck Cartwright of Hudson Vineyards sees used barrels as a valued resource, a raw material that can be transformed into a work of art or functional article to help heroic veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Chuck sees "Barrels4Vets."

With the help of John Crossley at Suisun Valley Antiques & Collectibles, used wine barrels and half barrels are available for resale to benefit the Tug McGraw Foundation (TMF) in Yountville. TMF earmarks the funds for their own fStop Warrior Project as well as the lauded Pathway Home, a residential recovery program for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Read Full Story.

A Note To Tug McGraw from Former Navy Corpsman

I personally have to give a huge thank you and round of applause to the catalyst that got me in connection with the Soldiers to Summits program: The Tug McGraw Foundation.  A year ago, in october of 2011, I admitted myself to the Pathway Home, an inpatient PTSD treatment facility in northern California. At that point in my life I needed all the help I could get.  Jenn Brusstar, who runs the Tug McGraw Foundation, showed her support to us in every way she could. She was the one who brought Charley Mace and No Barriers to the Pathway Home to ask for volunteers to do this Cotopaxi climb. Lots of things have changed for me both good and bad since last October, and all of that has its place in this journey to the summit of 19,347ft. I personally would not be able to experience this life changing journey without the help of Jenn Brusstar and the Tug McGraw foundation. Know that I truly appreciate the opportunity and your belief in me to complete this. The Tug McGraw foundation is a great asset to veterans and their families. I am forever in debt to Tug McGraw and its supporters. Thank you and God Bless.

About the Tug McGraw Foundation

TMF was established by Tug McGraw in 2003 to raise funds to enhance the quality of life of children and adults with brain tumors and their families by stimulating and facilitating research that addresses the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual impact of the disease. Recognizing that other areas of brain research - such as traumatic brain injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder- inform the science surrounding brain cancer, TMF has widened its scope to include a broader spectrum of the neuroscience to support advances in medical care and quality of life for our nation’s battle-wounded, ill and injured service members. www.tugmcgraw.org
