March 6, 2009 – TMF partners with the NMHM for 10th Annual Brain Awareness Week

March 16th through March 20th the Tug McGraw Foundation will partner with the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Washington, D.C. for their tenth annual Brain Awareness Week.

The National Brain Awareness Week programs were first established by the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives (Dana) in 1996, linking scientists, clinicians, journalists, and other educators (all “partners in education”) in an annual effort to raise public awareness about the brain and brain science.

Genvieve Goldstein, The Tug McGraw Foundation's event director, will demonstrate to students "brain break" activities on how to "unstick your brain" through some simple cross-lateral movements that can help energize our Think Tank. "The exercises are fun and set to some very special music by TMF’s Honorary Chair, Tim McGraw. So, you can bet that in the weeks to come I'll be practicing the Wiggle Wiggle and the Monkey," said Goldstein.

In 2000, Dana joined forces with NMHM to develop a program designed especially for middle school students. The program has helped instill a sense of excitement about science, while bringing awareness and understanding of current research and its translation to a young audience.

Over 600 students are expected to participate and it's with great hope that Brain Awareness Week will inspire a new generation of scientists.
